Spelled By Betsy Schow – Top Favs with Betsy Schow and Giveaway

Fairy Tale Survival Rule #32: If you find yourself at the mercy of a wicked witch, sing a romantic ballad and wait for your Prince Charming to save the day.

Yeah, no thanks. Dorthea is completely princed out. Sure being the crown princess of Emerald has its perks—like Glenda Original ball gowns and Hans Christian Louboutin heels. But a forced marriage to the brooding prince Kato is so not what Dorthea had in mind for her enchanted future.

Talk about unhappily ever after.

Trying to fix her prince problem by wishing on a (cursed) star royally backfires, leaving the kingdom in chaos and her parents stuck in some place called “Kansas.” Now it’s up to Dorthea and her pixed off prince to find the mysterious Wizard of Oz and undo the curse…before it releases the wickedest witch of all and spells The End for the world of Story.

Top Favs with Betsy Schow

You’re home alone, there’s a fire!  Top 3 things you’d grab and save from the fire.

Back up drive, because it has all my manuscripts in progress, family photos etc. My jewellery box that my husband made for me one Christmas, because it was really the first thing he worked hard to create and surprise me with. My 2nd edition printing of “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” because it is one of my all-time favorite books and it took me FOREVER to track down an early edition.

Top 3 favorite techniques to overcome writers block and why

I love to divergent plot storming. I’ll sit down with a problem a character must overcome (trapped in a locked cabin aboard a sinking ship) then I will start a timer for 15 minutes and write down as many things as possible that he could do about it. Really gets you thinking.

Another thing I like to do is READ. And as far away from the genre and style I am writing in as possible.  The break from myself and fresh voice often busts up what was blocking me within a day.

My last go-to technique is the head-down-just-write-as-fast-as-you-can-and-come-back-to-the-scene-later. Sometimes just the dread of getting through a scene I don’t understand can really keep me from writing it.  But once it’s over, I find that I can go back and fix it or embellish as needed since the bones are already there.

Top 3 favorite actors/actresses and why

I love Anna Kendrick. She is by far the cutest and sassiest thing since Cindy-Loe Who. Next is David Tenant, because he’s yummy and made the best Doctor Who EVER! Next, Benedict Cumberbach. Every time he’s in a role, I just get lost in the complexity and depth he brings to the character development.

Top 3 favorite gadgets and why

Microwave: I would die without it. Like, seriously.

My sliding up and down table like the ones they have in hospitals. Best bedside laptop table on the planet.

My Fitbit: I feel much less guilty about eating cheesecake if I can prove I’ve walked 16,000 steps that day.

Top 3 favorite dream destinations and why

Japan, because I am obsessed with all things anime and manga. Black Butler, Pandora Hearts… you name it. Everything is just much cuter there. I think it’s a law.

Ireland, because besides the gorgeous countryside, I’m a pretty big Celtic mythology buff.

A week at home with no kids or interruptions. Reason why should be obvious.
