Thanks for stopping by for our Tour Stop for

The Outside (The Hallowed Ones #2) by Laura Bickle

presented by Bewitching Book Tours!

One girl. One road. One chance to save what remains…

After a plague of vampires is unleashed in the world, Katie is kicked out of her Amish community for her refusal to adhere to the new rules of survival. Now in exile, she enters an outside world of unspeakable violence with only her two “English” friends and a horse by her side. Together they seek answers and other survivors—but each sunset brings the threat of vampire attack, and each sunrise the threat of starvation.

And yet through this darkness come the shining ones: luminescent men and women with the power to deflect vampires and survive the night. But can these new people be trusted, and are they even people at all?

In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, it’s up to one Amish girl to save her family, her community, and the boy she loves . . . but what will she be asked to leave behind in return?

MaryAnn NewA fantastic follow up to book 1 of The Hallowed Ones series where the vampires are more in your face and just as scary as they were in the first installment.

The Outside (The Hallowed Ones #2) by Laura Bickle picks up where book 1 left off.  Katie has been kicked out of her Amish community and is banned from ever returning.  She is not left to fend for herself out in the world outside of the only place that she has ever known.

Thankfully, she’s not by herself.  She is in the company of the boy who opened her eyes to a world that has been hidden from her.  Alex, the tattooed boy who is strong, courageous and sweet and who I’d be happy to be stuck with when the world becomes over run with vampires.  Their destination?  Canada…where Alex hopes that he’ll find his family safe and sound.

But their travels are anything but easy.  With night fast approaching on a daily basis, there’s only so much ground that this group can cover.  With a nightly mad hunt for some sort of holy ground where they can rest, you can’t help but look over your shoulder with these characters, knowing that death is just around the corner.

With only Alex’s tattoos to protect him, and Katie’s Himmelsbrief, a scripted letter created by one of her people in the Amish community that helps ward off attacking vampires, the need to find a holy place that has not been over run with the darkness is a difficult task.

But the vampires may not be the only things out there that post a threat…

I was so engrossed while reading this book that the ending came far too quickly.  With wonderfully written characters placed in a world that is terrifying, there’s no way that you’ll want to put this book down.  Author, Laura Bickle does an amazing job grabbing the reader’s attention with writing that brings out the horror of the vampires alive.

I love that the story brings everyone right back to where it all began.  With the various twists and turns that Laura Bickle has placed strategically into this story, The Outside will keep you on the edge of your seat pretty much right from the first page.

Not only do we find much to be scared of in this book, there are also various parts where the plot pulls at your heartstrings.  I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to be a young person needing to survive in a time where these crazy ass vampires hunt you for their next meal.  I loved how these vampires could be found in not so obvious places.  There was a certain point in the book where I was certain that both Alex and Katie were going to die.  I had no idea how they would get out of the jam they managed to get themselves into.

Fans of horror, vampires, and dystopian type reads will ravage The Hallowed Ones series by Laura Bickle.  If you’re looking for a book that will have you constantly turning the pages, I wouldn’t hesitate in starting these books.  They are definitely worth the read.
