A streetwise girl trains to take on a gang of drug dealers and avenge her best friend’s death in this thriller for fans of Scott Westerfeld and Robin Wasserman.

People say when you take Heam, your body momentarily dies and you catch a glimpse of heaven. Faye was only eleven when dealers forced Heam on her and her best friend, Christian. But Faye didn’t glimpse heaven—she saw hell. And Christian died.

Now Faye spends her days hiding her secret from the kids at school, and her nights training to take revenge on the men who destroyed her life and murdered her best friend. But life never goes the way we think it will. When a mysterious young man named Chael appears, Faye’s plan suddenly gets a lot more complicated. Chael seems to know everything about her, including her past. But too many secrets start tearing her world apart: trouble at school, with the police, and with the people she thought might be her friends. Even Gazer, her guardian, fears she’s become too obsessed with vengeance. Love and death. Will Faye overcome her desires, or will her quest for revenge consume her?

Top Favs with Jeyn Roberts

You’re home alone and there’s a fire! Top 3 things you’d grab and save from the fire:

My cat, Hera. My puppy, Livy. And my laptop.

Top 3 favorite authors (dead or alive) and why:

Stephen King: He’s got to be my favorite author of all time. I blame his books for my love of horror.

K. Rowling: How can anyone not adore Harry Potter?

Betty Smith: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is the one book I need to read at least once a year. It’s such a beautiful story of survival and determination.

Top 3 favorite snacks while writing and why:

Coffee, coffee, and coffee. Caramel macchiato. White chocolate mocha. And now that it’s autumn, pumpkin spice latte! Come winter, gingerbread lattes will make a guest appearance.

Top 3 favorite books that inspired you to write and why:

Stephen King’s It. It made me want to write scary stories.

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. He writes so beautifully. It’s very inspiring.

Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt. A book I read and loved as a child. It has continued to haunt me over the years. Who wouldn’t want to tell a story that sticks with someone for decades?

Top 3 favorite songs to listen to while writing:

“Banditos” by The Refreshments because it’s so silly

“505” by the Arctic Monkeys

“Lua” by Bright Eyes

Top 3 favorite techniques to overcome writers block and why:

Walking. I can’t explain why, but when I’m stuck, going for a hike always helps me work out plots.

Lying down. Some may call it napping, but I call it working.

Talking to friends. I have a very good muse who is always patient enough to sit down and listen to me babble.

Top 3 musicians/bands/groups and why:

Nine Inch Nails: No one can create angry, depressive music the way Trent Reznor can.

My Chemical Romance: Seriously, these guys look like they’re having way too much fun. Their music is catchy, and I love their videos.

Ryan Adams: Driving down the highway and listening to “Strawberry Wine” or “Oh My Sweet Carolina” makes the world a better place.

Top 3 favorite movies of all time and why:

Donnie Darko. This movie blew my mind when I first watched it. And it continues to blow my mind every time I watch it.

This Is the End is now on my top list. So hilarious.

I’m going to give a shout-out to my friend’s movie Convenience. I got to hang out with them while filming, and it was so much fun. Running around London in the middle of the night. And the big, tough, Russian gangsters are super nice guys to talk with.

Top 3 favorite animated movies and why:

Treasure Planet. My favorite Disney movie. I think because it combines one of my fave books as a child and space travel. How is that not the greatest thing ever?

Spirited Away: Beautiful and moving

Not a movie, but Samurai Champloo because it’s so freaking fantastic.

Top 3 favorite movie moments and why:

The opening scene to Serenity. It’s shot in one continuous scene.

The suicide scene in Dark Fall. It’s brutal and horrific and uncomfortable to watch, but you can’t look away.

The scene in An American Werewolf in London when David changes for the first time. Done before computer animation, it’s a fantastic bit of special effects.

Top 3 favorite actors/actresses and why:

Colin Farrell. He makes one hell of a sexy vampire. Plus, he was brilliant in In Bruges. He’s underrated.

Milla Jovovich. I saw her speak at Comic-Con and she’s so quirky and fun. She also proves that women can play tough action heroes.

Tom Hiddleston. I’ve never seen an actor say so much without speaking a single word.

Top 3 favorite gadgets and why:

I love my iPhone a bit too much.

My Nespresso machine because of my insane coffee addiction.

Now that it’s getting cold again, I’m digging my electric blanket. Ha ha! I also like my Xbox cause I love playing the dancing games. But I really suck at dancing.

Top 3 favorite dream destinations and why:

This is a tough one because I’ve been a lot of places, so my list keeps changing. But I’ll pick destinations I haven’t been to yet. Iceland. I’ve wanted to go there for ages. Watching The Secret Life of Walter Mitty only made the desire worse.

Bali. I’ve wanted to go there for quite some time now.

The moon. Why haven’t they built that hotel yet???
