Welcome to our Tour Stop for

Liv, Forever by Amy Talkington

presented by SOHO TEEN!

When Liv Bloom lands an art scholarship at Wickham Hall, it’s her ticket out of the foster system. Liv isn’t sure what to make of the school’s weird traditions and rituals, but she couldn’t be happier. For the first time ever, she has her own studio, her own supply of paints. Everything she could want.

Then she meets Malcolm Astor, a legacy student, a fellow artist, and the one person who’s ever been able to melt her defenses. Liv’s only friend at Wickham, fellow scholarship kid Gabe Nichols, warns her not to get involved, but life is finally going Liv’s way, and all she wants to do is enjoy the ride.

But Liv’s bliss is doomed. Weeks after arriving, she is viciously murdered and, in death, she discovers that she’s the latest victim of a dark conspiracy that has claimed many lives. Cursed with the ability to see the many ghosts on Wickham’s campus, Gabe is now Liv’s only link to the world of the living. To Malcolm.

Together, Liv, Gabe, and Malcolm fight to expose the terrible truth that haunts the halls of Wickham. But Liv must fight alone to come to grips with the ultimate star-crossed love.

You’re home alone, there’s a fire!  Top 3 things you’d grab and save from the fire.

  • My laptop
  • My father’s watch
  • My most cherished piece of art: the framed print of the photograph on the cover of LIV FOREVER

Top 3 Favorite authors (dead or alive) and why

Joan Didion, Mary Shelley, Tennesee Williams

They each speak to a different aspect of me.

Top 3 Favorite snacks while writing and why

Carrots, Celery, Apples

Because they keep me awake and I can eat them all day long.

Top 3 Favorite books that inspired you to write and why

Looking for Alaska by John Green

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

These three books got me re-engaged and excited about YA as an adult and thus lead to my writing Liv, Forever.

Top 3 favorite songs to listen to while writing and why

This totally depends on what I’m writing but for Liv, Forever it was:

Echo and the Bunnymen “The Killing Moon.” It’s moody, gothic, and romantic. And it reminds me of teenage love.

Bright Eyes “First Day of my Life.” Such a pure and honest love song. Malcolm puts it on Liv’s playlist.

Grandaddy “So You’ll Aim Toward the Sky.” It just inspires me and makes me think of the afterlife.

Top 3 favorite techniques to overcome writers block and why

Go upside-down. Literally.

Go for a walk.

And if all else fails, make another cup of tea and get on with it.

Top 3 musicians/bands/groups and why

There are way too many bands I love to name just three.  Can I tell you three bands I’ve discovered recently that I’m really excited about?

The xx

The Dum Dum Girls

Top 3 favorite movies of all time and why

Boy, this is hard! How about top three teen movies of all time?

Mean Girls

Pretty in Pink

Baz Lurmann’s Romeo + Juliet

Top 3 favorite animated movies and why

Lady and the Tramp

Winnie the Pooh

I’m old school (and my daughters get scared easily so this is about our speed these days).

Top 3 favorite movie moments and why

Oh, there are too many but here are three random ones that popped into my mind:

When Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder, not Johnny Depp) reveals his true self to Charlie in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

When Dorothy reveals her true self in Tootsie (I guess I like revealing of true selves!)

When the beasts come running in Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Top 3 favorite actors/actresses and why

James Franco

Jennifer Lawrence

Gabourey Sidibe

I like that they are not afraid to be themselves.

Top 3 favorite gadgets and why

My iPhone

My iPad

My Sonicare toothbrush.

I keep it pretty simple.

Top 3 favorite dream destinations and why

Africa (my father has always been obsessed with Africa and I’ve been surrounded by African things my whole life).

Berlin (one of my best friends moved there. I’ve yet to see her new home).

and I’d like to bring my children on a lengthy adventure. Not sure where.

Amy Talkington is an award-winning screenwriter and director living in Los Angeles. Before all that she wrote about music for magazines like Spin, Ray Gun, Interview, and Seventeen (mostly just as a way to get to hang out with rock stars). As a teenager in Dallas, Texas, Amy painted lots of angsty self-portraits, listened to The Velvet Underground and was difficult enough that her parents finally let her go to boarding school on the East Coast. Liv, Forever is her first novel.

  1. I can’t wait to read this book, it sounds really creepy and I’ve heard good things. A lot of books I’ve read like this have turned out to be blah!!! So I’m really hoping this one is going to be the one to break that trend for me :) I love the interview!! I love Looking for Alaska and The Sky is Everywhere too (who wouldn’t?)… and I love her movie picks too!! Although I wish that James Franko would share a little less of himself, especially if he’s going to be douche-y.
