Blog Tour: Evermore (Everless #2) by Sara Holland – Interview

The highly anticipated sequel to New York Times bestseller, Everless!

Jules Ember was raised hearing legends of the ancient magic of the wicked Alchemist and the good Sorceress. But she has just learned the truth: not only are the stories true, but she herself is the Alchemist, and Caro—a woman who single-handedly murdered the Queen and Jules’s first love, Roan, in cold blood—is the Sorceress.

The whole kingdom believes that Jules is responsible for the murders, and a hefty bounty has been placed on her head. And Caro is intent on destroying Jules, who stole her heart twelve lifetimes ago. Jules must delve into the stories that she now recognizes are accounts of her own past. For it is only by piecing together the mysteries of her lives that Jules will be able to save the person who has captured her own heart in this one.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Thank you so much for having me! I’m thrilled to be here! I’m so honored to get to tell you all about my second book, EVERMORE. But be warned, here be spoilers, so finish EVERMORE before diving into this interview!

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

In the sequel to Everless, Jules Ember, the reincarnation of the mythic Alchemist, has to travel Sempera unraveling her past lives in order to defeat the Sorceress who’s out for her blood.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

I often talk about how EVERLESS began with an image: a girl, Jules, kneeling by the side of a frozen lake, angry and grieving. Once I started work on EVERMORE, I obviously knew Jules and her world fairly well, so it wasn’t so much one spark of an idea. More like trying to understand how Jules’ discovery—that she is the Alchemist of legend—would shape how she sees and interacts with the world.

Tell us about the main character(s).

The discovery that she is the Alchemist totally upended everything Jules thought she knew about herself and about the world. Before, her primary goals were limited to saving and/or avenging herself and her loved ones; now, even as she’s still very much endangered, she’s realizing that her actions have a much greater impact. She’s coming into her power, but that also comes with the weight of responsibility.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

I finally got to write the masquerade ball scene in EVERMORE that I’ve always dreamed of. I love this trope so much—there’s mystery, there’s beauty, there’s romance, there’s fashion! I tried to mix the glitz and glamour in with some of EVERMORE’s darker plotlines, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

I’m sure all authors feel this way when wrapping up their series, but writing the climax and resolution of EVERMORE was really hard. Over the course of this duology, I got super attached to Jules, Caro, Liam, Ina and the whole gang. So wrapping up their arcs in a way that felt satisfying was so difficult—I wanted everything perfect, and at the same time, I didn’t want to say goodbye.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

Nothing I can talk about just yet, but I’ve always been a huge fan of contemporary fantasy—stories that make me believe magic could be just around the corner. So I would love to give that a try in 2019!

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much! I hope you all have a very happy New Year!
