After inadvertently saving the world, eighteen-year-old Jessica Martinez is ready to put adventure behind her and settle back into the familiar routine of high school.

Though when she’s offered an opportunity to photograph the inside of an alien space ship, Jess jumps at the chance. After all, she’d be crazy to turn something like that down, right?

Spending time with David on the ship has definite advantages and the two seem to pick up right where they left off. But when Jess discovers a plot to sabotage David’s efforts to establish a new home for his people on another planet, neither David’s advanced tech nor Jess’s smarts will be able to save them.

ASHES IN THE SKY is an action-packed, romantic Sci Fi adventure that will leave readers screaming for more.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Aww thanks! I’m thrilled to pieces to be here.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

2 kids stumble over a plot to kill a planet and run for their lives to save the world and each other. Just another week with Jess and David.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

I’m not really sure what inspired this book. I knew I needed to get Jess and David back together again, so I decided that it would be fun to have her take some pictures of his space ship. Once Jess and David ended up in the same room, my muse quickly took over, and they were off and running for their lives again. Pesky teenagers, always getting themselves into trouble. Geesh!

Tell us about the main character(s).

Jess is a little hardened at the start of this book. She’s been questioned for two months straight, and has just gotten back home. Not to mention, she’s a little ticked at David for not contacting her since he left.

David, despite getting his dream job of terraforming a planet, is not in the greatest emotional state either. Having the fate of his entire species depending on him is a little much for one person to handle. Jess suddenly showing up, and having one of his deep fears about her confirmed, makes things just a touch worse.

Will David and Jess be able to overcome their differences to save the day again? Only time will tell.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

There is a scene where Jess overhears her father talking to someone about her. It is a wonderful scene, and probably my favorite in the book. I think most of us feel under-appreciated by our parents. I think if we had a chance to know what they really thought about us, we’d be surprised.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

There is one point of the book where Jess and David are stuck somewhere. Everything is visual, and we are in an environment we’ve never seen before. It was tricky getting the setting across, while keeping those scenes moving. If you are reading the book, it is the place that is depicted on the cover. Think green. Lots and lots of green. It was very difficult to write.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

Woo-hoo! I just finished the developmental edit for book three of Fire in the Woods! I can’t wait for the cover reveal and title reveal. Should be great fun!

I am also working on a new YA Contemporary Science Fiction novel that I am really excited about. A girl and her father bond while building a robot in their barn, but Homeland Security is on to them, and they’re not too happy about their progress. I’m hoping to finish this book up and send it out to query in the next few weeks.

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Aww, thanks! And thank you for having me. It’s always a hoot!
