Review of Storm (Elementals #1) by Brigid Kemmerer

Earth, Fire, Air, Water – they have more power than you dream.

Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread those lies about her, Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys—all the ones she doesn’t want. Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water—just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They’re powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.

And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.

Secrets are hard to keep when your life’s at stake. When Hunter, the mysterious new kid around school, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who’s hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

The storm is coming . . .

** This book was provided to us by the publisher for an honest review.
We were in now way paid for our opinion **

I loved it! I loved it the way I love summer mornings on the weekend.  I loved this book!  Everything about it was amazing and held a little bit of everything that you could possibly want in a YA novel.  Five red hot guys?  Check.  A feisty and strong female lead?  Check.  Twists and turns?  Check.  Total awesomeness?  Triple check.  Action?  Psh, forget about it (la mobster accent).  Have I forgotten to mention that I loved it?

Storm by author Brigid Kemmerer is (simply put) about four brothers who can control the elements and one day, our main character Becca, ends up saving one of the Merrick brothers from getting a total beat down.  After their encounter, Becca and Chris end up meeting continuously in dangerous situations until Becca learns that somebody is trying to kill them and that the more time she spends with them could lead to their death and her own death as well.

Yeah, pretty awesome-sauce I know.  Let that sink in for a moment, I’ll wait.  (La tick tock on the clock)  Now that it’s sunk in, I’ll proceed with the review.  Storm started with an opening sentence that already had me hooked and dying to read more and shocking enough, I was surprised to find that the story starts off exactly where it starts on the back of the book.  With Becca finding Chris Merrick getting beaten up by two awful terrible mean little boys.  Not only does she save them, but Becca also ends up being taken straight to the Merrick household where we are quickly introduced to the oh so very attractive and described to have beauty beyond all belief *clears throat* brothers.

That was something that I rarely see in novels these days.  Giving people exactly what they came for right off the bat and I’ll admit that, at first, I was kind of thinking “Well okay, so I bet it goes downhill from here on.”  No.  It doesn’t… If you end up thinking that like I did, you end up regretting it because the book just gets better and better.  I mean, there’s death and mystery and—and there’s even a love triangle that eventually ensues.

Kemmerer described the world of Storm and the characters without shame and gives them attitudes and personalities that made them seem realistic, and made the characters stand out compared to ALL of the other characters in the world of novels.  Personally, I liked—nay loved– that she gave us two boys to fall in love with.  Hunter and Chris.  Both of them so different from each other and both of them guarding heavy secrets that aren’t uncovered until the end of the book that had some major twists that sent my mind reeling (in a good way).

I will admit now that I have no complaints, but I did figure out the main plot twist around halfway through the novel. That’s no big deal. I’m the world’s greatest detective when it comes down to stuff like that  (and if you understood the detective reference you are my new favorite homo sapien. Congratulations!). This book had me screaming out “It’s like Heroes!!!” If you know the T.V. show I’m talking about and when you begin to read you’ll figure out why especially since the Guide totally gave it that feeling.

I would recommend this to fans of (surprisingly) the Vampire Diaries, teen-fiction and action.  You will not be distracted, and I personally think that The Elemental series is going to go big (when it does, you heard it at Chapter by Chapter first!!!) and that we should all keep an eye on it.  Plus, you’ll fall in love with it. Like I did.
