Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!
Thank you for having me.
Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)
AWAKE is the very embodiment of ‘some things are better best forgotten’.
What was your inspiration for writing this book? Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?
Oh, most of my books start as dreams. I’ve had many, many creepy dreams that will become books. I’ve had the plot notes for AWAKE in my notebook since 2013 after dreaming of being in the middle of circle of chanting people. I didn’t go back to sleep after that one!
Tell us about the main character(s).
Scarlett is a sixteen year old with a four year memory gap from her early years. She’s trusting, loyal and a little bit of a push over but discovers an inner strength she didn’t know she had.
Noah is a teenage boy who’s blinded by what he’s been taught. He struggles to come to terms with what he’s learning to be right and wrong.
Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?
I looked in the mirror and took deep breaths to calm my nerves. I could do this. I was strong.
“Scarlett, are you ready?” Donald called.
Time to fight for my life.
I really like this part right here. It’s right before the imminent action!
5) Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing? If so, why?
Yes, there’s a part in the book where Scarlett is harmed by her parent. That was very difficult because I can’t imagine ever wanting to do that. Being a mum especially made it hard to write.
What sort of projects do you have going on right now. Any new books coming out?
I have about 7 notebooks all filled with idea so I have plenty to write. If I could just have about 5 more hours in a day…
AWAKE is my last release of the year so I have a lot of time now to write, which I can see being filled with a lot of social media procrastination. Next year I have another YA thriller out and 1-2 New Adult romances.
It was great having you on the blog today! We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success in your writing future!!
Thank you so much.

I would say The Shining by Stephen King. I made it through the book but then the movie really scared me.

Mine too! That book scared me so freaking much despite being in high school when I read it. But the movie was so terrible though.

I don’t know that I’ve read any books that have truly scared me, but Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas was a thriller that really stayed with me.
