Character Challenge: Haven vs. Chelsea – Worst Best Friend

Hey guys, this week we are finally moving away from all of our epic battles and moving onto a new and more exciting match-up. We have, Haven from Alyson Noel’s The Immortals Series and Chelsea from Michelle Madow’s Remembrance, competing for the title of Worst Best Friend. How exciting! We’ll take a look at why they’re considered a bad best friend by checking out things like who their friends are, what they did and then see what would happen if the two girls met up, became best friends and see who would back-stab who first.
P.S. Most of Haven’s parts will be full of spoilers for those of you who haven’t read The Immortals Series. Sorry.
Now… to the match-up mobile!!!
 The Scenario:
Chelsea and Haven meet up at a party. They hit it off, find that they have something in common (Gee, I wonder what it is…) and instantly become best friends.  So, say that our lovely leading ladies are seeing each other after school, on the weekends and spending their hours alone texting.  Aww…True friendship right there. What is it that would bring this new found love (we found love… in a hopeless place…) all crashing down? Well it’s easy, the one thing that kinda made these girls go to insane lengths for revenge was… a GUY!!! Yes. A guy. So let’s just say that a guy popped out of the blue, hot, smart and mysterious (the absolutely perfect mix that these girls fall for)…
So tell me… why are you such a bad friend? (Worth points)
Haven – The Immorals series
(She’s the one in the back)

Well, Haven wasn’t always a bad friend. In fact ever since the beginning of the series I found myself constantly feeling that Haven and I were similar in minor ways. There were a few things about her that may have steered her in the direction of Bad Friend Land. It could have been the way she constantly changed her look so she could fit in, or her love of red velvet cupcakes (if that makes you a bad person, then I must be a monster). Haven used to be a trust worthy friend to Ever Bloom and Miles, who just needed a bit too much attention.

Her downfall was when she:
a.) fell for Roman, whom she loved, even though he didn’t feel the same and
b.) became Immortal and her vision of all things good became distorted.
She thought it was just soooooo cool being “like a vampire, minus the bloodsucking” (in her words not mine), when being Immortal had its consequences. Just like some sort of druggie with an excessive use of the word ‘fug’, Haven ended up with Roman, who ended up with lots and lots of elixir (which for those of you who haven’t read The Immortals Series is what sustains the Immortals), which ended up making Haven power crazy. Well, generally just crazy after Roman died and it was all blamed on her now ex-best friend, Ever.
After that, Haven spent her time becoming Ever’s Best Enemy (awww… wait. No.) Haven knew all of Ever’s weaknesses, all her hopes and dreams and secrets! And then did the worst thing possible, she used them against her. Then at one point, when she finally had Ever in her clutches she… KILLED HER (ex) BEST FRIEND!!! DUN, DUN, DUN. Who does that? So, in short the reason why Haven is such a bad friend is simple, she was power hungry, she destroyed what was left of the cure and then she killed her (ex) best friend.
… Well you know the thing they say about Karma… (read this series!)

Chelsea – Remembrance

Just like Haven, Chelsea wasn’t always a bad friend. She and Lizzie used to be best friends; they were trustworthy, happy and ready to be BFFL-UTEOT (It means Best friends for life until the end of time). There really is only one thing that might have steered her in the direction of Bad Friend Land and that was her flirtatious behavior. So of course, Drew Carmichael just had to come into the picture and how could Chelsea resist? He was cute, charming and her best friend’s soul mate (not that she knew at the time).
Her downfall was when she involved herself with Drew and brought Lizzie along on all their little dates. Poor Chelsea…she was just sealing her fate. Every time Drew and Lizzie hung out, it brought them closer together, but brought Drew and Chelsea closer apart. Like any smart, pretty, flirtatious girl she had to kick it up a notch and tried to push Lizzie and Lizzie’s ex back together. Of course, after Drew dumped her to the curb, she was informed about Drew and Lizzie’s late night dates. Enter desperation mode…She made sure that Lizzie saw her (almost) hook up with Drew. What is up with these girlies??? That’s just cold. To make matters worse she repeated what had almost killed Lizzie… again. The same way Lizzie died in her past life. That was what ruined their friendship and now Chelsea holds some major resentment towards her ex- boyfriend and her ex- best friend.
In short, Chelsea deserves this title for ruining her friendship with Lizzie by dating Lizzie’s soul mate, rubbing it in Lizzie’s face and almost (kinda) killing Lizzie… again.

After thinking about it, both these chicks kinda had similar motives, since this is a title that these characters shouldn’t really want. The person who gets points should be semi- sad, semi- glad that they got something for no reason at all. Congratulations, Chelsea! Sorry but you kinda almost killed your friend again, and you kinda killed her a few years back the same way… awkward.
So tell me… who were your friends? Yes. I said ‘were’. (Worth Marks)
I know that this seems like a strange thing to check out, but to prove that I’m not insane for looking at who our characters friends are, we are checking it out because we need to know how many other people they might back stab
Haven
Chelsea
Considering that Haven was an outcast, but then during her Immortal lifespan, she became the bees knees (yeah I said that.) we have a bit of a list of people.
– Miles
– (Used to be) Ever
– All the popular people at her school during her time as an Immortal.
– Roman (though he didn’t care for her)
– All the people are her school.
Chelsea was the exact opposite of Haven (during her outcast phase).
– (Used to be) Lizzie
– (Used to be) Drew
– The soccer team
– Other popular people throughout school society.
This seems like a funny one, both of them have ‘motives’ for why they would back stab these supposed friends, past events, feuds, ‘Omg did you see the look she gave me?’ moments. Either way I think that the person who would back stab their so called ‘friends’ would be Haven, since most of them either used her or became her friends after she used her Immortal magic. Does that count as brain washing?
Now the moment we have all been waiting for. What happens when Chelsea and Haven meet up, what happens when they both become best friends, who will lose? Who will win? (I do… I like winning) Who will back stab first? Let’s find out!
…Let’s play the scenario again when this information comes into play…
if we could do video re-inactments, it would be so awesome…for now let’s use our imaginations that we reader’s are famous for…
Let’s just pretend that this all happens, Chelsea and Haven meet up at a party. Yes. A guy. So let’s just say that a guy popped out of the blue, hot, smart and mysterious (the absolutely perfect mix that these girls fall for)…
Let’s also say that the two girls fall for him but don’t tell their best friend, well that would be the first small step to ending this relationship. Now it’s all just a matter of who would go to what lengths first? It’s obvious that of the two choices the guy would fancy one girl over the other and I have to say that our male character (can we please call him Tim???) would fall for the more… subtle girl. From what I’ve read from one of my favorite novels, Remembrance, Chelsea is big on getting her guy by forcing actions on him. So in our fairytale, Tim would have fallen for Haven (happy ending! Yay) and we would see jealousy spread through Chelsea. She would resort to the dirtiest of dirty ways for making Tim feel the way she feels for him, she would flirt, she would try to tear Haven and Tim away from each other and she would stop at nothing until Haven was away from Tim. LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!
Lucky for Haven, Tim is a devoted man who is so deeply in love, and that he would never cheat or leave his love for any reason. He would probably get all stalkerish but let’s leave that exciting story for another day.
So there we have it. I would like to add that both girls were tied in the research columns but that since there could only be one Worst- Best Friend it gives me great joy to finally confirm that our title goes to Chelsea! Congratulations! Haven could have gotten the title but since we did our match- up before she became an Immortal, she couldn’t have used immortal magic to make him love her. If we had done it when she had immortal magic it would have been an absolute win. Enjoy your title, Chelsea. I hope that you don’t come after us for revenge… I’ve read the Vengeance blurb…
Results: Worst- Best FriendChelsea.
