BLLB-Banner

We’re celebrating the release of Blue Lily, Lily Blue with a Tarot Reading of THE RAVEN CYCLE series (past, present, and future!)

Today, we are providing a tarot card reading for the “The High Priestess” card.

Did you know that author Maggie Stiefvater designed The Raven Cycle Tarot, a Major Arcana 22-card deck inspired by The Raven Cycle series?  They’re all stunning!

The Tarot Card tour will be running from November 1 – November 22, 2014.  You can follow the full blog tour to see all 22 Tarot cards revealed, and have an opportunity to win a Limited Edition The Raven Cycle Tarot Deck for yourself!  You can visit the This Is Teen Pinterest page daily for new links to all the tour stops.

And now, here is the reading for

The High Priestess card

(The High Priestess is card number 2, and is the guardian of the unconscious mind)

TheHighPriestess

Past…

The High Priestess is a card that indicates a magical time for love and when Blue first sees Gansey’s spirit on Saint Mark’s Eve she knows that this is either because she is his true love or because she killed him. This card represents wisdom and knowledge, both of which link back to Blue’s clairvoyant familial ties. The High Priestess is the guardian of the unconscious. She is an intermediary between the subconscious and parts of the subconscious that can only be accessed through dreaming and symbols. Both Ronan and Adam understand just what kind of power dreams hold and how they might interfere with the waking world.

Present…

The High Priestess may also indicate a change in an individual’s life. For Blue this could Maura’s disappearance, for the Raven Boys it could be an unexpected figure who has brought himself straight to Ablionby, and for both parties it could be the search for Glendower coming to a close. The High Priestess suggests that a woman might learn to trust herself and avoid turning to acting like her male counterpart. A certain female character in the novel does embrace this fully. This card wants their reader to trust their instincts as not everything is what it appears to be. These might also be beneficial times for a certain two people to think and feel (*cough* Blue and Gansey and their undefined relationship *cough*).

Future…

Lastly, the High Priestess signifies that it’s best to avoid conflicts entirely and to refrain from believing that all that has been presented before you is the truth. In terms of the future, it reads that there is a coming confrontation. This could involve Glendower, a certain antagonist or romantic affairs. The High Priestess is a card that knows without knowing and so, if behavior is being forced upon one of our beloved characters that is very out of their character, they’ll know better than to begin embracing it. Someone also may willingly be keeping secrets or knowledge from someone. Perhaps Blue and her Raven Boys should wonder if they are keeping secrets or if secrets are being kept from them and if so, why? They should also contemplate if they’ve been listening to their inner selves and if they are respecting themselves as well as any higher powers that may be involved.

READ THE PROLOGUE

AUDIO EXCERPT (PROLOGUE) – Read by Will Patton, published by Scholastic Audio in 2014. Music by Kate Hummel.

“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive. Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble. But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

From Maggie Stiefvater, the bestselling and acclaimed author of the Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we’ve never been before.

17347389

Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams, and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after….

17378508

There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up.

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost.

My favorite thing about Maggie Stiefvater’s books–and especially The Raven Cycle–is the characters. The way that they are described and how unique they are and how they change over the course of the series are all so amazing. Blue, Gansey, Ronan, Adam, Persephone, Kavinsky, the Grey Man and all the other incredible characters are the reasons why I picked up Blue, Lily, Lily, Blue and could not put it down until I’d finished.

Honestly the best and worst part of this series is that I couldn’t hold myself back from reading all of BLLB in less than a day, and now I have to wait at least til next year for the fourth book, and then it’ll be over… Very rarely do I steadfastly like each book in a series equally, but I can honestly say that’s the case here and there are no weaknesses. It’s one of the few series I’ve read multiple times before it’s even finished. Honestly my favorite thing about the series seems so trivial, but it’s very easy for me to immerse myself in the scenery because I live in a place very similar to Henrietta–just in the Tennessee part of the mountains!

The best thing about the series, to me that is, is the mystery and imagination. Every word, every sentence, every moment, can all be seen behind your eyes. In your head, you can imagine every little detail, and it’s truly amazing being blessed with the gift to see a small portion (at least) of the world of The Raven Cycle. I love that it’s every bit hilarious as it dramatic and suspenseful. It’s just truly a (written) work of art.

Maggie’s unique, in depth characters and the adorable relationships between them are an element that I strive to incorporate in my own writing. I love that Blue is a strong and independent female protagonist who breaks the carbon mould and wields personality that is quirky and likable. I love Gansey and the fact that he is not the typical macho male love interest. I love Ronan… because he’s a grumpy cactus and needs hugs.
