Hundreds of cats are missing! Fear not-Penelope Ann Pickersgill and her hippie grandma are on the case. While her friends go to cool camps, twelve-year-old Penelope has to spend the summer with Grandma Bev, who is convinced that cat-eating aliens are beaming the town's furry friends aboard their mother ship at night. Lights in the sky point to UFO's, but Penelope is sure there's a more logical explanation. With a little help from Sherlock Holmes, she and Grandma Bev set out to find the cats. Will they be able to solve the mystery before all the cats in Thornhill disappear?
Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!
Thanks for hosting. Everybody burn some incense and get your protest signs ready because it’s hippie time. =)
Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)
An epic tale of missing cats, UFO’s, macrobiotic food and a granny/granddaughter sleuthing team. Won’t someone think of the kitties?
What was your inspiration for writing this book? Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?
I had just finished writing a very dark book featuring a post-apocalyptic world where there is basically no hope for survival and I wanted something light and airy and fun.
Tell us about the main character(s).
Penelope Pickersgill is the straight shooting logical granddaughter stuck at her eccentric granny’s house for the summer. She’s the brains behind the detective duo.
Grandma Bev: An unapologetic aging flower child. A conspiracy theorist of the highest order. Someone who never abandoned her counter culture beliefs. A fine macrobiotic cook. A detective novel enthusiast.
Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?
“The Thornhill Saver doesn’t lie”
Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing? If so, why?
Mostly trying to get Grandma Bev right so that she still comes off as being legitimate and real even though she’s a thousand kinds of eccentric. Of course her interaction with her very modern 21st century, social media savvy granddaughter. It was a tricky combination but I think it worked well.
What sort of projects do you have going on right now. Any new books coming out?
My agent is shopping a very dark New Adult story that I can only describe as The Sixth Sense meets Kill Bill’s The Bride meets Sons of Anarchy.
It was great having you on the blog today! We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!
Thanks for having me. I hope everyone gets a chuckle out of the mystery of the missing cats. =)
