Tigers-Promise

Before the curse, there was a promise.

A prequel to the bestselling Tiger’s Curse series, this much anticipated novella recalls the beginning of Ren and Kishan’s story. Before Kelsey there was a girl, raised by a villain, whose love for a hero changed the course of history.

Trapped under the thumb of her abusive and powerful father Lokesh, Yesubai struggles to keep her own magical abilities secret while evading his dark powers. When Lokesh promises Yesubai to the prince of a neighboring kingdom, she becomes the central pawn in his plot to destroy the ruling family and take power for himself. Yesubai is trapped by her father’s threats and desperate to protect the man she comes to love, but she knows that any decision she makes will have dire consequences. As dark forces gather around her, Yesubai must decide if she’s willing to reveal that somewhere deep within her she has the power to change everything.

5 Things you didn’t know about Colleen Houck

1) I LOVE BOY BANDS
From N’Sync to the Osmonds, from New Kids on the Block to One Direction, from the Jackson Five to The Backstreet Boys, from New Edition to The Beatles, and the Monkees to Hansen, I love listening to the light pop sounds of swoonworthy teen boys singing to their girls. There’s just something so urgent, do dire in their vocal pleas that the teen fan-girl who still retains a large piece of my soul responds. I hope the idea of boy bands never dies. I get that the whole concept is an act. They’re not really desperate for my phone number. They don’t want to run through the surf with me and they aren’t waiting at a local carnival Ferris wheel hoping that I’ll notice them. But they are almost as perfect as book boyfriends, aren’t they?

2) I DON’T LIKE DRINKING WATER
I have a mini fridge in my bedroom office where I spend most of the day and I keep it stocked with a few things. Crackers and cheese for when I get the munchies. Chocolate chips for when I crave chocolate and a variety of drinks but none of them are water. I have Diet Dr. Pepper, Coke Zero, Vitamin Zero of many colors, and even water bottles but those water bottles have changed from the H20 they used to be into Crystal Light or something else. I CAN drink water if there’s lemon around but I have to have some kind of taste in my liquids.

3) I DESPISE THE IDEA OF TRENDS
This is especially true when it comes to books. The worst thing a publisher can tell me is that gnomes are the hottest thing or everyone’s writing about changeling chipmunks this year. Or, worse, telling me that someone’s already writing something that I’m interested in. I hate being pigeonholed which is one reason I love young adult books. Typically an author has much more flexibility in that genre. I like what I like and if that includes something that isn’t riding the current wave of success then I’m fine with that.

4) I HAVE SOME WRITING PET PEEVES
My number one is book covers with girls in a pretty dress, especially when the dress in question has nothing to do with the girl or the book. Now if the dress turns into a time machine or if she actually goes to a ball in it or gets married in it then I’m okay with that but a dress just for the sake of selling the idea of “that” girl is one of my pet peeves. Another writing pet peeve of mine is when an author has no end in sight. I picked up a series and actually got through book 6 or 7 only to find out the entire book was a dream and didn’t happen. I was so mad that I Googled the series only to find out that the author didn’t even have a plan. She said, “It could be 20 books maybe 30…who knows?” I immediately vowed never to read that author again. Another one is books that promise romance and there isn’t any. I have a pretty strong definition in my mind of what constitutes a romance. There needs to be at least one good steamy kiss and just saying they did it and not describing it doesn’t count. Also there has to be some angst, some profession of love by one or both parties and then I’m good. As much as I love Hunger Games, it isn’t because of its sweeping and epic romance.

5) I LIKE OLD SCHOOL CARTOONS
I’m a big fan of Looney Tunes (not the new version), Scooby-Doo (same thing), The Simpsons, The Smurfs, Superfriends, The Flintstones, Captain Caveman, Josie and the Pussycats, The Jetsons, Underdog, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Thundercats, He-Man, etc. I try watching new stuff with my nieces and nephews and I just don’t get it. Where’s the mystery to be solved? Isn’t there a bad guy to be unmasked? I miss when cartoons had plots. They should divide cartoon network into two channels so us geezers have something to watch.

I listened to the first two books as soon as they were available on Audible. Meanwhile I bought the books as they came out. I waited not so patiently for the others to come to Audible. I think when when it was time for the fourth book, it’s been sometime but I’m pretty sure it was the fourth book I started contacting Colleen begging to know why it wasn’t available on Audible. I’m 37 years old and it’s embarrassing when you’re begging for a book but I did. I’m still begging for the fifth. I have been so busy that I don’t know if Tiger’s Dream will still be released or if the movie deal is still a go. I have never entered in any of her contest but I’d love to win and my 17yr old wwould love to read it as well. Thank you for your contribution in the giveaway and a special thank you to Colleen. The email is the one I signed up with. I can’t use it to leave comments on WordPress accounts. I’m not nbc sure what’s wrong with it but I know I’m listed as a blogger and I am not one, lol.
