How to get over a heartbreak:

Step one: Eat your body weight in brownies.

Step two: Throw yourself into your dreams of becoming a famous writer.

Step three: Beg your (hottie) ex-neighbor to act as your fake boyfriend.

Step four: Skip step three unless you’re ready for some serious fallout.

After being dumped and humiliated over the summer, Cat Turner does what any sane girl would do. She asks bad boy Alex Locke to be her fake boyfriend and show the world (and her editor at the school newspaper) that she’s fine. Problem is, the more time she spends with Alex, the more she risks getting her heart broken. For real this time.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains a swoony bad boy who will melt your heart, brownies, and witty banter. One, two, or all three might prove addictive…

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

Two friends who discover that the only thing that hurts more than falling in love, is breaking up

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

This was one of those sweet books that literally fell into my mind while I was working on a completely different manuscript. I had such a strong vision of a girl sitting under a tree, writing a slash and burn type story about the guy who broke her heart. I was intrigued enough to keep going!

Tell us about the main character(s).

Cat is determined to become a successful author and most of the time she’s pretty cool. It’s just her and her mom and they have a lovely relationship which was so much fun to write about. However, her dreams take a detour when she almost misses out on a job at the school newspaper, which is why she recruits bad boy Alex to be her fake boyfriend and convince her editor that she’s not a liability! As for Alex, he’s what I like to call a sweet bad boy. The face he shows the outside world is just a mask to hide how much he hates his dark past. He’s a guy of few words until he starts spending time with Cat!

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

This line made me giggle as I wrote it!

She gripped the half-open front door and considered doing her homework before deciding misery didn’t like homework, it liked Netflix. And ice cream.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

The story touches on cyber bullying and I had a tough time deciding how to resolve it. My editor wanted me to have the school carry through a punishment because it’s a big deal. However, both my kids are in high school and neither of their schools seem to know how to handle bullying in a real way. They run workshops and talk about it but when it actually happens they don’t always act. And because I wanted to reflect that I ultimately decided not to bring in school counsellors.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

Right now I’m working on a series of women’s fiction books for Entangled and I have also have a couple more middle grade books coming (under my other name, Catherine Holt). However, because I had so much fun writing The Heartbreak Cure I’m trying to squeeze in another YA romance if I can!

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much for hosting me! It’s been so much fun and I really appreciate the support!!!!
