Welcome to Gemini City, where super-battles disrupt rush hour, insurance claim adjusters rival rock stars, and villains stash the souls of murdered superheroes inside little children.

It’s been ten years since Shay Sinclair’s parents were murdered by a super villain, leaving she and her sister to fend for themselves. Now at age sixteen, Shay has something that villain wants. Something he needs. After a chance encounter with a superhero in a stairwell, something awakens in Shay, something that could get her killed.

Max Steel has spent the last ten years searching for one particular soul. Now, a coincidental run-in with Shay Sinclair leaves Max closer than he’s ever been to everything he’s ever wanted. But Max hits a brick wall when he goes after her. Unlike other girls her age, Shay isn’t into superheroes. So, if Max wants to win her over and be reunited with the soul inside her, he must get creative. He invites Shay into a seductive world of fame, glamour, luxury, and epic battles with villainous foes.

Now that Shay’s in the mix with superheroes and crazed villains, everyone wants a piece of her. A super villain wants to devour her soul, a superhero wants to love her, and Shay just wants to go back to her normal life. It’s not like in the movies. In real life, superheroes suck.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Thanks so much for having me back at Chapter by Chapter! This time, I’m here to chat about my latest novel Superheroes Suck.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

Welcome to Gemini City, where super battles disrupt rush hour, claim adjusters are like rock stars, and villains stash the souls of murdered superheroes inside little children.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

I was talking to a friend about how people in superhero movies stand on the streets in awe watching superpeople fight as their city gets destroyed around them, and it inspired me to write a novel. At first, Superheroes Suck started as a satire but it ran away with me and grew into a grand adventure.

Tell us about the main character(s).

Shay Sinclair is 16, and a literal genius. She was offered an early graduation from high school and a full ride to a prestigious college, but she turned it down. Her parents were killed during a superpowered scuffle when she was a child, her older sister is her legal guardian. All she wants is a bit of normalcy, and high school is as normal as it gets. Like most people in Gemini City, Shay is enamored by the real live superheroes who chase off evil villains. She never thought she’d meet one, but when she did everything she knew about her life changed forever.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

Pretty much every line that comes out of Shay’s mouth is my favorite quote. But, seriously, there is a part in Superheroes Suck that I really, really love. I don’t know how to describe it without spoiling the story. Let’s just say there are a few scenes near the end involving nanobots that I just love. These scenes surprised me when I wrote them because I hadn’t expected to go in that direction when I started the manuscript, which could be why I love them so much.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

There is an extremely emotional rooftop scene in chapter thirteen that I had a hard time getting through. It wasn’t difficult to write, I knew exactly how I wanted it to go. The difficulty came with me trying to stop myself from sobbing like a baby while I wrote it, and every time I edited it.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

For the first time since 2012, I’m not working on any projects. Superheroes Suck is my last scheduled release. I’m out on submission with my agent now, so maybe you’ll see something from me in the future.

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thanks so much for having me here at Chapter by Chapter once again! I had a great time talking about Superheroes Suck, and hope to stop by and chat again.
