When Allie’s best friend dares their group to play a game in a cemetery—something she calls “witching”—Allie never expects what it might mean for her. When she plays, she doesn’t just find bodies, she summons their souls. But one soul wants more than Allie is willing to give.

And the boy next door could be the key to saving her.

Cody Burkhart. Straight from Montana, cowboy hat wearing, and smoking hot, he’s just the thing to help Allie become “normal” again after the death of her mother. And as her newly appointed Guardian, he’s also just the thing to help Allie ward off the vengeful spirit who’s after her soul. Except Cody has his own demons to slay that keep him closed off. But as the full moon approaches, so does their only chance to break the curse, and Cody will have to make the biggest sacrifice of all.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Thank you so much for having me! I’m excited to be here and talk bookish things.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

When Allie meets the boy next door, she never imagines he showed up to protect her from a curse—a curse that’s turning her into a ghost.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

Well, I went witching in a cemetery one night—as is the dare at the start of the novel. It was really creepy, and I thought it would be a great topic to write a book about, especially if something were to go very wrong.

Tell us about the main character(s).

There’s Allie. She’s really sweet, blurts things out, is awesome at basketball, and is super sensitive to emotions. She’s that girl who always tries to make sure everyone in the group is happy and having fun. Her mom’s recent death hit her really hard, and she wanted to run away from everything, but she came back stronger, even if she didn’t feel like it quite at the beginning.

And there’s Cody. He’s one of those quiet but funny, thoughtful but shy guys—you know, the ones you wish you could get to open up to you because they don’t open up to many, but when they do, you see this amazing personality. He’s dealt with a lot in his life, too, and is able to relate to Allie on how going through tragedy changes you.

I seriously wish I could meet them in real life. <3

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

YES! So many. Hmmm. How to not give away spoilers . . . I love this exchange between Allie and Cody. It’s so them:

I caught him staring at me. “What?”

His eyes softened. “You’re beautiful.”

“What? No, I’m not.”

“Yes, you are.”

Right. With my nose all red and runny from the cold. “Look at me. I’m—”

“I am looking.”

The way he stared at me, with his eyes fully captivated, made my heart beat faster.

OR

I really like this quote:

Real friends, they don’t try and shield you from the pain. They don’t let you run from it. They help you through it.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

Yeah. A lot of it. As an author you have to sometimes dig really deep into your memories and emotions, so pulling that up to write some of these scenes with authenticity was hard, but so worth it.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

Actually, I do! I have another book coming out with Entangled in February—It’s an urban fantasy. And the second book in my Children of the Blood Moon series, Amber Eyes, comes out in January. (So you have time to read Scarlet Moon if you haven’t already—wink, wink.)

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much for having me! It was fun! (optional)
