When Caleb Gray heads to the Texas coast to mentally prepare for a future he isn’t sure he wants, the last person he expects to see is Catie Dixon. Yeah, their mothers have been planning their wedding since they were born, but he and Catie are most definitely not friends. He can’t see her as anything but the annoying kid who followed him everywhere. Except, it’s really bothering him that everyone is staring at her in that bikini…
Catie got over her crush on Caleb ages ago. So why can’t she see past his ripped body or how unsettled he seems? She’s got her own problems, though. Her future has been set for years and now she’s dreaming of pulling the plug. A week at their families’ beach house is just what she needs to pull herself together, and she has no intention of letting Caleb back into her heart…which would be a whole lot easier if he’d put on a shirt.
But a forced week of togetherness full of beach parties, waterslide mishaps, bonfires, and roller coasters sparks more than an understanding. What do you do when the person standing in the way of your future is the one person you grew up hating…but now don’t?

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Thank you so much for having me!

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)
Forced to stay together at the beach, Catie & Caleb plan to avoid each other—but between waterslide mishaps, ferry rides and slow dances, maybe being stuck together isn’t such a bad thing?

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

This book is a standalone novel, but the main character, Caleb, appears in my first two books, which take place in Florida (where I was born and raised). In the books, he’s recently moved to Florida from Texas, and in Stuck With You, he gets to go back to his home state for a visit. It was great to be able to write a book set in the area where I live—I even took a little beach vacation for research (bummer, right?) In the first books, Caleb has a bit part and is very unlucky at love (and by the end of book 2 I felt really sorry for him)—so I am excited to give him a chance to shine and (just maybe) find love. And his co-star in this book is Catie Gray, who I imagine to be a Texas spitfire of a young woman, with big dreams. They’re a great couple and it was so much fun to tell their story.

Tell us about the main character(s).

Caleb is (or has been up until now) an easy-going guy—good at everything he does and happy to do whatever was expected of him. Now he’s having doubts, so he escapes to his family’s beach house to unwind before he starts his freshman year of college. Catie is going into her senior year of high school and her always-focused future is also in limbo. When they both show up at the beach house, they have to contend with their less-than-friendly past, and open up to each other about the doubts that brought them to the beach. There’s plenty of fun too—including an awkward water slide scene, a sexy kiss in a rainstorm, roller coasters, ferry rides and a very adorable mutt named Mo.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

My favorite part is their first kiss—on the beach, in a rainstorm.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

I really wanted to get the struggles right – both my main characters are dedicated to their family, but have their own burgeoning dreams. That’s really one of my favorite aspects of writing YA – this time of life can be so ripe with doubt and anxiety and requires so much courage – I really wanted that part of the story to be authentic and I worked hard to make sure it was as good as I could get it.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

I have just finished my first adult romance, which is exciting – it’s on submission right now so I’m hoping for the best. I’m working on another adult novel, this one set in Alaska, where I visited this summer, and then I’ll be back to YA!

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you!! Happy reading everyone!

Christina Mandelski was born in South Florida, where her love of reading was cultivated in a house full of books. Stories like The Little House series, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Secret Garden, filled her imagination and fueled her dreams to be a writer. That dream came true when her first young adult novel, THE SWEETEST THING, was published in 2011, and she’s beyond thrilled about her upcoming series for Entangled Crush. Chris lives in Houston with one handsome husband, two beautiful daughters, and two freakshow cats. She has a fondness for the beach, her family and friends, and she still loves to read (especially curled up with a good cup of coffee!) She also enjoys shopping, traveling and eating, especially cake. Always cake. When she’s not doing these things, you can find her holed in a cozy spot with her laptop, writing.
