How far will you go when you have nothing left to lose?

When she lost her soul mate, Caleb, Eve felt like her world had ended. Trapped in the palace, forced to play the part of the happy, patriotic princess of The New America—and the blushing bride of her father’s top adviser—Eve’s whole life is a lie. The only thing that keeps her going is Caleb’s memory, and the revolution he started.

Now, Eve is taking over where Caleb left off. With the help of Moss, an undercover subversive in the King’s court, she plots to take down The New America, beginning with the capital, the City of Sand. Will Eve be able to bring about a new, free world when she’s called upon to perform the ultimate act of rebellion—killing her father?

In Rise, Eve must choose who to leave behind, who to save, and who to fight as Anna Carey’s epic tale of romance and sacrifice in the chilling dystopia of The New America comes to a stunning conclusion.

Top Favs with Anna Carey

Top 3 Favorite snacks while writing and why:

snacks-AC

Tea, tangerines, and the occasional dum dum pop (for reasons unclear).

Top 3 Favorite books that inspired you to write and why:

Books-AC

An eclectic bunch:

-The Babysitter’s Club by Ann M. Martin: There were 150+ books and I read them all. This was my intro to the reading and writing life.

-Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison: Taught me how mind-blowing a good book can be.

-Circling the Drain by Amanda Davis: A short story collection with humor and heart. Reminded me that writing is fun.

Top 3 favorite songs to listen to while writing and why:

music-AC

I actually don’t like listening to music while writing (I start singing along), but right now I’m loving Icona Pop, First Aid Kit, and the latest Florence and the Machine album.

Top 3 favorite techniques to overcome writer’s block and why:

writers-block-AC

When I’m stuck on a scene I do yoga, take a walk, or watch an episode of The Vampire Diaries. Sometimes I need to think about the story and work through it, other times I need to forget about the writing and just relax. And sometimes, when I’m not sure what I need, I try both.

Top 3 favorite animated movies and why:

Animated-AC

I loved Up and Brave, but the truth is when I think of animated movies only three come to mind: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. I grew up on those movies and am still known to bust into song when anyone mentions them.

Top 3 favorite travel destinations and why:

Destination-AC

-Paris: Went for the first time this fall. Cheese, chocolate, baguettes, macaroons, and homemade sausage. What isn’t there to love?

-Morocco: A friend lives there, and traveling around it felt like visiting five countries in one. The coast, the cities and the mountains are all so different.

-India: I don’t know how to explain it…if you have a chance to go, do.

I enjoy dystopian books because each author has such wildly different ideas about what the future could be like. It’s always fun to read the really creative and well thought out ideas!! Rise looks like a VERY imaginative future. Awesome!!

I recently picked up book one (yeah I know I am a bit behind here LOL) and am really excited to know that I can proceed with the series to fruition, which is one of my favorite things with reading a series. I have really been enjoying the dystopian stories, even in the deepest darkest times something happens that gives some hope :) Thank you for sharing with us.

To be honest, I’ve only read Eve, so I’ll have a bit of catching up to do by reading Once. I’m really excited to see what comes up next since Eve left off at such a heartbreaking point.
