No planet. No hope.

Quinn Neen and his friends have survived the uprising and the ruthless Fosaanian leader’s attempt to kill them, but the galaxy is still hurtling toward war. With just a few days before Quinn starts his mandatory military training, he plans to spend the time with Mira, the Fosaanian girl he’s in love with. When a mysterious message forces them on a journey to an isolated planet named Reyet, Quinn’s plans quickly change.

A coup on Reyet throws everything into chaos, leaving Quinn and Mira evading enemies they know, and some they don’t, including the planet itself. Now, time is running out for Earth, Fosaan, and Reyet, and there may be no place left in the galaxy that’s safe.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

A boy. A girl. Two families. Each wants to control the galaxy. Only one can but neither one should. History can be twisted, so what is true?

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

I’m a big fan of DUNE, STAR WARS and STAR TREK, and it’s been a goal of mine since I first thought about writing to write my own epic adventure, but with my own twists, so less emphasis on space battles and more on connections between characters and strange new worlds to explore.

Tell us about the main character(s).

There are two main characters. The story is told from the point of view of Quinn Neen, a boy from Earth who has gotten involved with a girl (Mira) from a planet that was nearly destroyed during an apocalyptic supervolcano. She’s the descendant of the remnants of the royal family, so Earth’s leaders want to use her to help put down a rebellion by her ruthless uncle, who wants to bring their empire back. She knows her duty, but she doesn’t know if she wants to have Earth control her destiny. All Quinn knows for sure is he wants Mira, no matter how much his family disapproves.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

I really loved creating the world of Reyet. When I write, I want the reader to want to experience that world, as if it was a destination they could travel to. I love to travel in real life, so I try to incorporate elements I want to experience when I travel. Even if it’s a frightening situation, like the five friends in the book find themselves in, I wanted to bring in elements that would make the setting seem real. It’s a lot of fun to imagine in my head and then try to bring it to life on the page.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

The ending! I always have trouble writing endings, because in the books I love to read, I don’t want them to end. In the books I write, I feel the same way. The characters have become so real, I want to imagine their story continuing.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

I just finished a draft of book 3. Quinn and Mira have many more journeys to take! It will be out in 2019. I also have another book out next, a historical I like to describe as a YA Downton Abbey with spies. It was also a lot of fun to write. Science Fiction and historical writing have quite a bit in common-You have to create worlds you’ve never experienced.

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thanks so much. I hope you enjoy reading, and I’m always available to chat via Skype with book clubs about the books. (I love contacts with readers-I spend most of my time with my laptop and my cats.)
