As Princess of Wonderland Palace and the future Queen of Hearts, Dinah’s days are an endless monotony of tea, tarts, and a stream of vicious humiliations at the hands of her father, the King of Hearts. The only highlight of her days is visiting Wardley, her childhood best friend, the future Knave of Hearts — and the love of her life.
When an enchanting stranger arrives at the Palace, Dinah watches as everything she’s ever wanted threatens to crumble. As her coronation date approaches, a series of suspicious and bloody events suggests that something sinister stirs in the whimsical halls of Wonderland. It’s up to Dinah to unravel the mysteries that lurk both inside and under the Palace before she loses her own head to a clever and faceless foe.
Part epic fantasy, part twisted fairy tale, this dazzling saga will have readers shivering as Dinahs furious nature sweeps Wonderland up in the maelstrom of her wrath.
Familiar characters such as Cheshire, the White Rabbit, and the Mad Hatter make their appearance, enchanting readers with this new, dark take on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

I couldn’t find a trailer, so here’s a song!
Who doesn’t love the story of Alice in Wonderland. Totally brings you back to your childhood, doesn’t it? The Queen of Hearts was a force to be reckoned with, that’s for darn sure. But what if you were able to find out what drove the Queen of Hearts to be the way she is? What if you had the opportunity to see who she was before? What she was like? What drove her mad?
Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes explores just that. The reader is instantly transported into the world of Wonderland where we meet the future Queen of Hearts, Dinah. Her life is pretty much what you would expect for a princess…appearances have to be kept up, home studies of your future kingdom as a daily thing, tea time and tart eating to your hearts content. Sounds pretty good, am I right?
Too bad Dinah’s dad is all sorts of crazy! Take, for example, how he chooses to introduce Dinah to her half-sister. He demands for Dinah to meet him so that he can share some new news with her (and a whole slew of other courtiers). He manages to weave his tale of infidelity into something that has everyone feeling sorry for him, and pretty much demands that everyone is to love her and treat the new duchess as if she were not a bastard child…especially Dinah. But can she accept this half-sister knowing full well that she was a product of her dad’s inability to keep it in his pants. His constant loathing looks of hate towards Dinah and how his temper is constantly nuclear every time she’s around drove me crazy, and is pretty much how the Queen of Hearts we know (and love?) is in the Alice in Wonderland tales.
I really enjoyed that characters that we know from Alice in Wonderland are portrayed in this book as well! Cheshire the cat is a conniving advisor to the King, The Mad Hatter is Dinah’s mentally instable brother, the White Rabbit is Dinah’s confidant, it goes on and on. I loved that when these side characters are introduced that I was able to quickly figure who they are in Alice in Wonderland.
I will admit to you that it did take me a bit to get into the swing of things when reading Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes. But I will tell you that I’m glad to that I did push through. The latter part of the book was constant go, go, go and I totally am looking forward to seeing what will happen next to Dinah!
Fans of darker reads and has a passion of Alice in Wonderland will really enjoying Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes. Prepare to be transported to a cut throat world where you are cheering on a future villain.
