Joshua never thought he’d return to the world of Nostos so soon. But, when King Apollo needs his help in the Arrow Realm, Joshua’s will and powers will be tested in order to save him.

With his loyalties divided between our world and theirs, Joshua wonders whether he alone can restore magic to the twelve powerless Olympian heirs, or whether he is being tricked into making the one mistake that might cost them all.

JOSHUA AND THE ARROW REALM is the exciting follow up to JOSHUA THE LIGHTNING ROAD which the Midwest Book Review called, “a heart-pounding thrill ride.”

Chapter-by-Chapter-header---Interview

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

I’m thrilled to be here and talk about book two in the Lightning Road series, Joshua and the Arrow Realm! More magic and mayhem abound in this new action-packed adventure full of fellowship, bandits and beasts.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

A high-stakes romp thru a wild world where descendants of the Greek gods live, beasts abound, and not everything—or everyone—is as it seems.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

I wanted to test Joshua further and have him work things out for himself without as much help in this adventure, and I knew then I would have to throw him into some dastardly situations! With the story set in the Arrow Realm ruled by Queen Artemis (Greek god of the hunt), I wanted a great hunt to be part of the story. From this, grew an entirely new subculture of the Wild Childs who live in trees to escape the hunt. Many ideas DID come on my walks and I spent hours audio recording scenes in the woods – about scenes IN the woods!

Tell us about the main character(s).

Joshua is an only child, raised by his grandfather, who has moved around a lot. He is a loyal friend, loves art, and wants to believe in the good in people. He doesn’t always feel like he belongs but quickly finds belonging in a place he never knew existed!  In Joshua and the Arrow Realm, Joshua begins to relinquish the struggle to belong and starts to learn that doing can lead to self-acceptance.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

I love this quote from Ash, one of the Wild Childs, that Joshua befriends in the story. She tells him “You’re destined for bigger things. To change worlds. Make a difference. You can’t go runabout from destiny. No matter how much you want to.” I think this is true for anyone of us!

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

It would have to be the battle scene near the end. There were many people (and beasts!) involved and lots of action going on. Was a fun challenge!  And also fun, was that I incorporated a scene I wrote in my very first book years ago (that is collecting dust in a shoebox in my closet). Using that scene from long ago, helped me figure this new scene out.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

I am writing a teen fantasy about a culture on a floating island that is ruled by inherited memory and involves a secret that could make or break their kingdom. Super fun!

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

About Donna Galanti

Donna Galanti

Donna is the author of the Joshua and The Lightning Road series and the Element Trilogy. She is a contributing editor to International Thriller Writers the Big Thrill magazine and blogs at www.project-middle-grade-mayhem.blogs..., a cooperative of published middle grade authors. Visit her at www.donnagalanti.com and www.ElementTrilogy.com. Donna wanted to be a writer ever since she wrote a murder mystery screenplay at seven and acted it out with the neighborhood kids. She attended an English school housed in a magical castle, where her wild imagination was held back only by her itchy uniform (bowler hat and tie included!). There she fell in love with the worlds of C.S. Lewis and Roald Dahl, and wrote her first fantasy about Dodo birds, wizards, and a flying ship (and has been writing fantasy ever since). She’s lived in other exotic locations, including her family-owned campground in New Hampshire and in Hawaii where she served as a U.S. Navy photographer. She now lives with her family and two crazy cats in an old farmhouse and dreams of returning one day to a castle.
