Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Thank you so much for having me! I love your blog! Also, we’re totally on the same page when it comes to The Wicked King! I’m so obsessed with The Folk of Air! I can’t wait to hear what you think of The Queen of Nothing! EEK!

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

I Hate You, Fuller James is a sweet YA sports romance that centers around a bet gone wrong, a cocky basketball star, and the girl who’s forced to tutor him, even though she hates his guts.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

My mind is always on overdrive. I’m always coming up with storylines and characters that I can’t wait to write. I find inspiration in everything from movies I’ve watched, interactions I see between strangers at a restaurant, and more. The inspiration for this book came from within. I wanted to tell a story that was relatable. One that readers can picture themselves in. A school with jock royalty, a girl who has experienced bullying, and how one thing, in this case, a bet, can turn everything upside down.

Tell us about the main character(s).

The story is told from two points of view, Wren Carter and Fuller James. Wren is a driven and incredibly smart student. She’s focused on school and helping to take care of her ailing Grandpa. She’s looking forward to going to the University of Georgia next year, where she’ll study engineering. Fuller James is the most popular student at Magnolia Valley High School. He’s struggling in Advanced Lit and his starting spot on the basketball team is at risk. He’s beyond embarrassed when he’s dragged into the principal’s office and assigned a tutor, none other than Wren Carter. He knows she hates him, but with limited options, he has to work with her or risk losing everything.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

“For someone who was used to feeling like the king of the court, I suddenly had plummeted to feeling like the piece of gum stuck to the bottom of someone’s shoe.” -Fuller James

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

Writing the scenes where Wren recalls how her best friend betrayed her and began bullying her were really tough to write. Having someone completely turn on you and throw you under the bus is a painful experience, especially when it’s your best friend.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

I’m currently working on CROSSING THE LINE, which is the sequel to IN THE PENALTY BOX, a YA sports romance that I co-wrote with Lynn Rush. I’m also working on a hilarious YA book about a student who is the ultimate prankster! It’s so much fun!

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much for having me! I’m honored to be featured on such an awesome blog! Looking forward to reading more on your site and hearing what you think of The Queen of Nothing!

I hate you, Fuller James.
I hate your floppy hair and your lopsided grin and those laughing blue eyes that always seem to be laughing at me.
I hate that you’re the most popular guy in school and I’m still the girl who sneezed and spit out her retainer on someone at a middle school dance. It’s just such a cliché.
I hate that I’m being forced to tutor you in English and keep it a secret from everyone. Because otherwise it might put our basketball team’s chances at winning State in jeopardy, and even though I hate you, I love basketball.
I hate that it seems like you’re keeping a secret from me…and that the more time we spend together, the less I feel like I’m on solid ground. Because I’m starting to realize there’s so much more to you than meets the eye. Underneath it all, you’re real.
But what I hate most is that I really don’t hate you at all.
