“We all hold a beast inside. The only difference is what form it takes when freed.”

Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere, He’s use to people judging him for his rough background, his intimidating size, and now, his orphan status. He’s always been on the outside, looking in, and he’s fine with that. Until he moves to New Wurzburg and meets Friederike Burkhart.

Freddie isn’t like normal teen girls, though. And someone wants her dead for it. Freddie warns he’d better stay far away if he wants to stay alive, but Rain’s never been good at running rom trouble. For the first time, Rain has something worth fighting for, worth living for. Worth dying for.

Ancient magic and modern society collide in a sexy, spellbinding romance perfect for fans of C. C. Hunter and Maggie Stiefvater that proves sometimes beauty is the beast…

Mesmerizing. Addictive. Action-packed. If I had to think of just 3 words to describe Haven by Mary Lindsey, it would be just that. The world created by Mary Lindsey was, in fact mesmerizing. Her writing immediately had you smack dab in the middle of the scene, as if a movie were playing directly in your mind. I could picture the characters, the setting, the smells, the moods… The writing was spot on.

The storyline itself was addictive! The opening chapter draws you into Rain’s hopeless world. Haven is one of those books where you have a hard time putting it down. The author presents you with this situation/theme that is present throughout the entire read, but she veers the reader off down different paths which gave the main story more background, and now has you wondering the outcome of more than one scenario. Does that make sense?

And you want to talk about action-packed? Guys… this book has it all AND to top it all off, Friederike Burkhart is one kick ass heroine. I am loving the girl power books of late, and Haven by Mary Lindsey is definitely one you need to add to that list. I will admit that most of the story was predictable, but I didn’t care. I love that little ounce of self-doubt that makes you keep reading because you’re so invested in the characters.

Fans of werewolves, paranormal reads, and strong female characters definitely need to read Haven by Mary Lindsey. It will keep you up until you’re done devouring it and will keep you craving more.

p.s. Rain is most likely going to be your new book boyfriend… I’m not saying, but I’m just saying…

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Teen Wolf meets NCIS in the Texas Hill Country.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

My editor had mentioned she wanted a gritty paranormal YA, which appealed. Not long after that, my husband and I hiked at Enchanted Rock in the Texas Hill Country, and the scene where Freddie shifts in front of Rain for the first time came to me from nowhere. After touring a small winery, the plot was set in my head… except for the ending. The ending came much later.

Tell us about the main character(s).

Aaron (Rain) Ryland has lived his entire life on the big city streets, bouncing from one homeless shelter to another with his unstable mother. His life has been harsh, so when he’s ordered by a court to move in with an aunt he’s never met in a tiny town, he thinks the most dangerous thing facing him from that point forward will be falling off the hay truck or being bored to death. But he finds nothing boring about Friederike Burkhart, who grew up on her family’s winery in New Wurzburg. Freddie is fierce, independent, and doesn’t need some guy from the city interfering. The small town has lots of secrets and so does Freddie.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

The setting and atmosphere. Small towns fascinate me, having spent a time in one because my grandparents lived on a ranch outside of Point, TX and we visited a lot. (population 309 while growing up). I love New Wurzburg, an outwardly innocuous small town with big secrets.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

The ending. I rewrote it so many times, it was ridiculous! Everyone could be the killer(s) and in one draft or another, they all were. :)

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

My next book out will be an adult romantic comedy, but I’m also working on a book related to Haven and an adult paranormal.

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much for hosting the tour and for making it so fun. I’d love to stop by again someday!
