The Beloved Angel/Warrior Team from Until Next TimeReturns!

When Matt and Emily are sent on their second mission they have no idea how truly dark human nature can become…

Emily never wanted to face humans again. With the heartache that went on down below, she’s still trying to figure out how to save souls that don’t deserve saving. The only one she wants to see again is Jason – the young man she fell in love with who became the soulmate she simply can’t forget…

Matt was trained to protect and defend the souls down below. Longing to feel the heartfelt emotions that come from being human, Matt wants nothing more than to have just one life – one chance – to live and love the girl of his dreams…

The powerful team find themselves in a brand new century, living in the Gilded Age of New York City. Emily takes over the body of Anya, a young Russian girl who arrives on Ellis Island after a hideous tragedy. There she meets up with a strangely familiar young man by the name of Drew Parrish, who helps Anya survive in an unknown world of luxury, snobbery and…obsession.

What Anya’s inner angel doesn’t know is that the soul she loves is also back. This time around Jason goes by the name of Max Carrow. Once a quiet and kind boy, he’s now part of the ‘Four Hundred Club,’ and wants nothing more than to be among the most admired as he climbs the shaky ladder of society’s elite.

As two worlds merge, Emily and Matt struggle under the weight of their “Gilded Wings.” Not only will they have to figure out who they should fight to save, but they must also face a romantic choice that could destroy them both.

Anya glimpsed the opulent carriage that’d halted on the muddy road. She watched in disbelief as the horses suddenly turned and raced away from the scene, back to the palace of gold and jewels where the royal family could hide. His day was ruined. The day the Tsar had been waiting for had turned from a warm celebration surrounded by his supporters into a bloody massacre and, apparently, he didn’t care.

Anya followed a line of people from the field. Their eyes were wide as they searched all around them for their loved ones. Only rumors, idle gossip leading to greed, had killed them all. Their excitement at having just one golden moment in their otherwise dark lives had been extinguished.

Anya limped into the grungy hospital behind her fellow citizens, with the image of the girl—now framed in that scarlet color forever—solidified in her memory.

The next few hours were a blur. Kind people set her bones but Anya was numb; she didn’t even notice the pain. A man wearing glasses and carrying a writing pad ran into the medical facility yelling and crying out, telling the injured Russian people that Tsar Nicholas II would be proceeding with his Coronation Ball as planned.

Anger burned in Anya’s soul. The broken people all around her stopped crying as the unbelievable news began to sink in. The Russian people had been forsaken, and the Tsar wanted to unite the country by sweeping their blood under the rug and dance on their graves at his precious ball. Turning toward the corner, Anya bent over and threw up. Her bruised ribs screamed under the pressure as she released the hatred, anger and disappointment she now felt for a man she’d once admired. After a few painfully deep breaths, strength seemed to grow inside her soul as Anya straightened her spine and marched out the door.

A distant voice echoed in her ears, “It’s time to be free.”

Watch Houdini’s Star, Jennie!
The Elephant that Sparks an Angel’s Imagination

“And then it came. Out onto the stage walked a ridiculously large, lumbering animal. Anya could feel her heartbeat speed up and the beads of sweat burst from the palms of her hands, as the small man introduced Jennie, the elephant, to the hushed crowd.”

In Gilded Wings, our favorite angel is astounded by this particular event that very much happened in New York City at the Hippodrome Theatre.

Emily was absolutely amazed watching an elephant actually disappear before her eyes, and the crowd at the Hippodrome that fine day were just as bedazzled. It seems fitting that the master of magic, himself, was one of the arrivals on Ellis Island during his lifetime, seeing as that the book tells the tale of Emily and Matthew as immigrants in a brand new world doing their own ‘magical’ job that they were assigned.

Being in the audience that day must have been a truly awesome experience. It is one of those events where you wish time traveling devices did exist so that you could go back and see it ‘live and in person.’ From 1905 to 1939, the Hippodrome was located on 6th Avenue between 43rd and 44th and was truly amazing to behold. Called the world’s largest theatre by its builders, it had a seating capacity of 5,300 with a mammoth stage, state of the art technology, including a rising glass water tank, and brought the ‘best of the best’ in entertainment to New Yorkers.

The most popular vaudeville artists of the day, including the unforgettable illusionist, Harry Houdini, performed during the building’s heyday. And while many magicians made rabbits appear and disappear, it was Houdini, in 1918, who brought a 10,000-pound elephant named Jennie onto the mighty stage and made her vanish right before everyone’s eyes. You should note, by the way, that the stage was brightly-lit and it was a true sensation that no one – especially our angel – ever forgot.

The saddest part of the story, however, is the fact that because of costs that came with running this elaborate theatre, it was closed in 1939 for demolition. Since 1952, a large modern office building known as “The Hippodrome Center” stands in its place, yet the magical allure is still there for someone with the imagination to be able to visualize that once unique site.

Even though time changes and the building that played home to this amazing ‘feat’ is long gone, that magical moment of Jennie, the disappearing elephant, will always be a part of our thrilling history.

Even though I write an angel who knows all about the ‘never-before-seen’ aspects of life, it was still amazing to sit with Emily on her big ‘date’ in the Hippodrome and watch the magic unfurl!

Have fun!

Until Next Time, Everybody,

About the Author:

I began to write at a young age when I truly believed that my sister was an evil queen and I was the slayer who would save the realm.:) Now that we are grown…I suppose she’s okay, and I have moved on to adventure fiction which I absolutely love.

Being the daughter of a Research Librarian, books and reading were always a ‘gift,’ and there is nothing I like more. In fact, if the NYPL would let me live in their basement, that’s where I would be. I am very proud of 13, being able to ‘link’ historical locales together in a puzzle that bestselling authors have called, “The DaVinci Code With Heart.” The Tallent & Lowery series is the ultimate adventure and I truly hope you all enjoy the ride! I review for many; I am the Owner of The Write Companion; and Editor-in-Chief of Precious Gems Pubishing, which was opened for debut novelists who were being overlooked. :)
