Genesis Girl Cover

Eighteen-year-old Blanca has lived a sheltered life. Her entire childhood has been spent at Tabula Rasa School where she’s been protected from the Internet. Blanca has never been online and doesn’t even know how to text. Her lack of a virtual footprint has made her extremely valuable and upon graduation Blanca, and those like her, are sold to the highest bidders. Blanca is purchased by Cal McNeal, who uses her to achieve personal gain. But the McNeal’s are soon horrified by just how obedient and non-defiant Blanca is. All those mind-numbing years locked away from society have made her mind almost impenetrable. By the time Blanca is ready to think for herself, she is trapped. Her only chance of escape is to go online.

Chapter-by-Chapter-header---Interview

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

Blanca’s lack of a digital footprint makes her so valuable that she gets auctioned off to the highest bidder.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

My goal was to write a book that was entirely unique and didn’t compare to anything else. When I hit upon the concept of teens who had never been on the Internet, that seemed so bizarre that it was inspiring.

Tell us about the main characters.

Blanca is an eighteen-year-old girl who has spent her whole life behind the lead-lined walls of Tabula Rasa School. She has never been online and doesn’t even know how to text. As a Vestal, Blanca believes her digital purity is essential, and she takes vows to protect it.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

My favorite quote from the book is the Vestal Blessing, which Blanca repeats whenever she tries to comfort herself or others. “You have a hard road. In so many ways it’s difficult being you. But I know that you can do it. You have everything you need to achieve happiness.”

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

I’m not a fan of insta-love in books, so I worked hard at making sure the romantic ARC took its time. Although in real life, my husband and I met for the first time on a Saturday night seventeen years ago and have been together ever since. I guess that’s proof that insta-love can work!

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

My next books is called “Damaged Goods” and it’s the sequel to “Genesis Girl.” Without giving away any spoilers, it dives into Vestals and their international counterparts, the Guardians.

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

It’s been a privilege chatting with you. Thanks for talking books with me!
