The second Jenna Quigley turns eighteen, she’s headed to L.A. to extend the timer on her fifteen minutes of fame. Too bad her dad made her promise to graduate high school first. Silver lining? Her new school has a serious talent competition with a $25,000 cash prize, which would go a long way in L.A. Jenna’s got plenty of talent—she didn’t almost win America’s Newest Sensation for nothing. But it’ll take everything she’s got to bring down the music nerd with a stick up his butt…no matter how cute he is in those glasses.

Miles Cleveland needs to win that talent contest. When some hot girl stole his audition spot on America’s Newest Sensation, his chance to study music flounced off to New York with her. Now, not only can he win enough money to pay for his education, he can get revenge on that very same girl. He can’t start to question his plan, though…no matter how deep Jenna buries into his heart.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!
You’re letting me talk about my writing and my characters. Trust me, the pleasure is all mine!

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)
That music nerd will not stand in Jenna’s way to the $25,000 talent show cash prize…no matter how cute he is in those glasses.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?
Jenna was around in book one of this series, The Summer Before Forever, so I knew for a long time I wanted to tell her story. She lost America’s Newest Sensation (think America’s Got Talent), and her fifteen minutes of fame are fizzling, so I wanted to give her a shot at redemption. I wanted to put her in a situation that was even tougher than national television, which is where I thought about a school of the arts where students are virtuosos, and she’s got to work harder than ever to win. I live in Nashville, and it’s super competitive here, so the serious talent of the kids in this school isn’t a stretch from reality.

Tell us about the main character(s).
Jenna is fearless (to the outside world), fiercely loyal to the people close to her, and a good friend to have in your corner. That being said, she will push you out of your comfort zone, and she may even make certain boys in her life a little crazy. She’s super close with her dad. Her mom…not so much. She wants to get better at making girlfriends (she knows this is her issue, not theirs), and she does not want to get tied down to some boy who is going to complicate her life and distract her from the talent show competition prize of $25,000 which will go a long way in her next stop…L.A., baby!

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?
A little set up. Jenna isn’t feeling very trusting of Miles right now, but as partners in the song writing unit in Music class, they are doing trust exercises. The teacher asks if anyone would like to fall backward blindly into their partner’s arms. This is from Jenna’s POV.

I look up at Miles. “I’m not falling into your arms.”

“Can I fall into yours?”

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?
There is a very intense scene involving Jenna and her mother. In order to feel what Jenna was feeling, I really had to imagine experiencing the same conversation. It’s impossible to know how I’d really feel, but I got a taste in writing that scene. Dark moments are tough because I really want to put the emotion into them for the reader, just as I want them to experience the butterflies and warmed hearts of the falling in love scenes. I actually get quite depressed when I’m writing the dark moment…like in my actual life. They are a necessary part of the writing process, but I’m always glad when they are over with and redemption is on its way!

What sort of projects do you have going on right now?  Any new books coming out?
I am always working on something! I’m working now on another YA that I am almost done with. I wish I could say more!

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!
I would LOVE to come back! Thank you so much for having me and giving me such fun questions to answer! Happy reading, y’all!
