Blog Tour: Claire Daly: Reluctant Soul Saver by Michele Brouder – Review, Interview, and Giveaway

When seventeen year-old librarian wannabe Claire Daly is dragged kicking, screaming and cursing from everything she loves—her mam, her cozy Irish village and the dreamy boy next door—to take up arms in the battle of good versus evil, she learns the hard way that sometimes you don’t get to choose your own destiny, destiny chooses you.

Claire’s life plan is simple: head off to university to get her degree in library studies, summon up the courage to tell her best friend Chas that she loves him and live happily ever after. She never once entertained the idea that she might possess divine powers, that she might be predestined to battle Hell’s demons, or, to complicate matters further, that another love of many lives past might turn up on her doorstep. But life doesn’t always go as planned, and when a co-worker is viciously attacked by a demon and her own family threatened, Claire must face the truth: she is called to a higher purpose and has no choice but to answer. Claire sets aside her dreams and begins learning how to deal with the Unholy once and for all. Armed with only a crash course in soul saving and her wits, she gears up for the ultimate show down in Hell. But will it be enough?

MaryAnn-2015What would you do if the world as you knew it changed in the blink of an eye? If one day, you were a regular teen doing regular teen things, and then BAM, you find out that you have supernatural powers and that basically you are destined to help God in his crusade against evil?

Well, for Claire Daly, that. Just. Happened. One day, she’s helping her Gram with holy water by a well, and the next minute she’s got powerful white beams coming out of her hands. And that’s not even the half of it! It’s at this time when her Gram and her mom decide that the time has come to tell Claire what the what is all about.

Apparently, Claire is destined for greatness…way before she was born. She finds out that she has always been destined to become a part of the Illuminata, and save lost souls in the deeper circles of Hell. To fight alongside Michael, the Archangel. But Claire is just not quite ready to accept this fate.

But when a dark evil seems to be hunting her down, and hurting anyone who is close to her, Claire knows that she needs to learn how to harness this power she has been given. Enter Aunt Julia. A woman she thought long dead, but is actually one of the best people to teach her how to become what she was meant to be.

All the while, a mysterious stranger named Ari seems to have a destiny with Claire as well. A destiny that has transcended time. (Gosh, I loved Ari and Clair and am dying to know more about their story! I’m craving it!) He’s hot, he rides a motorcycle, and all it takes is a whisper of his name from Claire’s lips for him to come to her rescue. Ehrmagherd where can I get one!

With dealing with a new way of life to trying to figure out what her purpose is, Claire begins her journey and tests her faith (or lack thereof) in a game of life and death.

Claire Daly is a firecracker. I loved her character. She speaks her mind, is pretty funny, and is like a typical teenager. I can’t even begin to imagine how much the news of her new life path could affect her! One day she’s heartbroken over her lifetime crush, and the next she’s learning how to control powers that are pretty impossible to believe.

Her love for her little brother, Seth, is so endearing and had me loving her character all the more. And don’t get me started on Ari. In my mind, he was Greek Adonis who wants nothing more to ensure that Claire is completely safe, no matter the cost.

Author, Michele Brouder, does an excellent job grasping the reader’s attention, and maintaining it for the duration of the read. I flew through the pages, and was in need of more when the last page was turned. I especially want more of Claire and Ari. Give us more! Give us more!

Fans of reads involving good and evil will thoroughly enjoy Claire Daly: Reluctant Soul Saver by Michele Brouder. I cannot wait to dig in to the next installment of this series.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Maryann, I want to thank you and all your readers for letting me be here today. It is something I’ve been looking forward to.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

Snarky Irish teenage girl, 17, lover of books, desserts and a fella named Chas. Is distracted by secrets, another fella named Ari and oh yes, fighting the Unholy.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

I had been reading a lot of my son’s books at the time which were heavily dominated by male protagonists (which is not surprising as he is a boy). One day while I was standing outside waiting for a ride and staring at a particularly lovely Irish cloud, I thought about how there might be a need for a redheaded Irish teenage female heroine with supernatural powers. I decided to write what I wanted to read.

Tell us about the main character(s).

The story centers around Claire Daly, an Irish teenager whose sole ambition in life is to be a librarian. She’s been in love with her best friend, Charles ‘Chas’ Manning, for a long time. She’s funny, clumsy, irritable and snarky. She’s the last person you would expect to save souls. Or to save anything for that matter. Chas is an American who came to live in Ireland with his Irish father after his American mother’s death when he was younger. He’s thoughtful, serious and somewhat of a health nut. Aristotle ‘Ari’ Vasilios is a British fella with Greek origins. He is passionate about two things: Claire and the cause.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

To tell my favorite part would be a spoiler!

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

The sequences in Hell. It was difficult because I had to really think about it and imagine my own worst fears. And I wanted to make it a little different other than the usual trolls and demons.  I wanted to make her feel bad. I’m the biggest scaredy cat in the southwest of Ireland. Even now writing these sentences about it makes my heart pound.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

Well, Claire Daly: Reluctant Soul Saver is the first volume in The Soul Saver series. I have started on the second volume and the tentative plan is for that one to be released late next year. I also am finishing up a Christmas themed romantic comedy that will be out in Oct/Nov of 2016.

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success in your writing future!!

It was a pleasure to be here! I am thoroughly enjoying the blog tour. I would love to come back! I sincerely hope that anyone who reads my book enjoys it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

About Michele Brouder

Michele Brouder

I was born in western New York, the oldest of 5. I've loved reading since I was very little. From the age of 9, I've wanted to be a writer. In high school, I wrote a lot of angst-ridden civil war dramas ala Gone With The Wind, knowing more about the Battle of the Bull Run than a normal teenager should know. I dabbled in writing after that but didn't get serious about it until 2006, when I decided that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I've had many interesting jobs but my passion has always been writing.
I lived in Ireland from 2006-2013 with my husband and 2 boys. We moved back to the US and settled in Florida briefly (2 years) before returning back to Ireland in August 2015.

A Kindle Countdown deal for Claire Daly: Reluctant Soul Saver by Michele Brouder will run from Nov 12th-19th, and it will be available for 99¢.
