Ari Sullivan is alive—for now.

She wakes at the bottom of a cistern, confused, injured and alone, with only the shadowy recollection of a low-pitched voice and a gloved hand. No one can hear her screams. And the person who put her there is coming back. The killer is planning a gruesome masterpiece, a fairytale tableau of innocence and blood, meticulously designed.

Until now, Ari was happy to spend her days pining for handsome, recent-arrival Stroud Bellows, fantasizing about their two-point-four-kids-future together. Safe in her small hometown of Dempsey Hollow. But now her community has turned very dangerous—and Ari may not be the only intended victim.

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, then Blood Will Out by Jo Treggiari is for you. Told in the voice of the kidnapper/psychopath and Ari Sullivan, Blood Will Out captured my attention right from the first page and had me guessing until the end. If you’re curious, I did end up reading this book in one sitting.

You are immediately thrown into the story with MC Ari Sullivan waking up and finding herself in a dark empty well. She doesn’t remember how she got there and who did this to her and why. You witness her escape, and then see the affects this has on Ari, her family and friends, and the community. But soon after, Ari realizes that she wasn’t the only one who was taken and she takes it upon herself to find out who the predator is and to rescue her friend.

When it comes to thrillers, I love it when the author writes in the voice of the “bad guy”. I’m also curious about what they are thinking and the reasoning as to why they decide to do what they do. I have Netflix and chilled many shows like this…trying to understand how their mind works and to hear their rational. Blood Will Out definitely didn’t disappoint me when it came to this. Dark and twisted, and watching the predator’s delusions and fascinations get progressively worse and worse.

For the YA crowd, this book is a fantastic thriller to delve into. A couple things that I had trouble with while reading Blood Will Out was that I felt Ari’s time in the well took forever. It kind of stalled for me a bit. And the ending felt a little rushed…I was hoping for more heart pounding moments.

Other than that, I encourage you to try Blood Will Out by Jo Treggiari. I honestly didn’t figure out who it was until it was revealed to you. What about you? Was it obvious to you?

Yes, I don’t know what it is called but it’s a YouTube video where you watch it and then something jumps out at you from the screen. It gets me every time!
