It has been six years since the Awakening and peace in Spokane, Washington is still tenuous at best. The vampires and shifters are all vying for control of the city and the humans seem to be the ones suffering the consequences, or so it seems.
Aria Naveed has spent the last two years of her life fighting to make the many wrongs of the world right, but soon finds out that the humans aren’t as weak as they appear and may be a more terrifying foe than any of the other races combined.
When a stranger rolls into town with trouble on his heels, Aria finds herself trapped in the middle of a battle that could cost her more than she has bargained for as a fight for justice turns into an unexpected fight for her life.
Cursed by Fire (Blood & Magic 1) by Danielle Annett
Release Date: January 28, 2015
As Friend of the Pack, Aria Naveed should be untouchable, protected by the most influential group in the Pacific Northwest. But someone is unleashing rogue vampires to hunt her down, and she is determined to find out why.
When Aria gains command of Sanborn Place and takes on a case involving a mysterious paranormal, her life is put in more peril than ever as she finds herself bound to an influential power player. She doesn’t want to be anyone’s puppet, but must tread carefully as she traverses the streets of Spokane, WA, or risk being overwhelmed by the forces moving against her.
As the only known pyrokinetic in the area, Aria is in high demand, but not for her services. It seems that to those in power, she’s worth more dead than alive, and if a mysterious enemy has their way, she won’t live long enough to find out why.

You’ll love #BurnedbyFire by @Danielle_Annett if you love a little snark and a heroine with a hell of a heart.
What was your inspiration for writing this book? Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?
Ah, this one is always so hard for me because I didn’t have a dream, or any great singular idea, and my first book, Cursed by Fire, is an entire different world, with an entire different set of characters than I’d originally intended it to be. If I had to place inspiration anywhere, as strange as this may sound, it would be on the movie Boondock Saints. There is a line in the movie that says something along the lines of, those who stand by and watch as evil is done, are worse than the evil doers themselves because they could have stopped it and chose not to. I really wanted a heroine with that train of thought driving her.
Tell us about the main character(s).
My main character is Aria Naveed. She’s a pyrokinetic mercenary with an attitude who always finds herself in some sort of trouble but usually because she’s trying to do the right thing.
Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?
This is hard. I feel like it is constantly changing but for now…
“We’re going to dinner tonight. Six o’clock” He said. My pulse jumped and my brain went haywire for a second before I snapped out of it.
I scowled. “Right, sure we are.” Hey, my voice didn’t waver. Two points for me.
“That didn’t come out right.”
“Okay, why don’t you try again.” I folded my arms across my chest.
Declan looked flustered. He frowned and opened his mouth to speak before closing it. Good for you. Think about what you are going to say before you say it.
Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing? If so, why?
Beginnings are always hard for me. When I write a book, I always have the middle and end planned out in my head but the first chapter always seems to be the toughest part to get going. I’m not sure why that is.
What sort of projects do you have going on right now. Any new books coming out?
Currently I’m working on Burned by Fire, book 3 in the blood & magic series. I’ve also been playing around with a PNR novel that I’m calling Red. It’s a little hush hush at the moment though so keep an eye out in the future. I likely won’t release it until the Blood & Magic series comes to a conclusion though.
