You can never really hide from what you’re meant to be…

A blood curse. Deadly secrets. A dark stranger.

When her deputy sheriff father goes missing, Lily Turner learns the quaint logging town of Pioneer Falls harbors terrible secrets– an unspeakable past connected to her family and a blood curse her father has hidden from his three daughters.

When Morgan McAllister arrives in town, Lily can’t deny their mutual attraction. But falling for Morgan may derail Lily’s efforts to find her father and to save her younger sisters from the family fate.

Searching for answers deep in the shadowy forests that surround the town, Lily will risk everything to uncover the truth. As hunters are exposed and rivals for the territory circle the Turner sisters, no one in Pioneer Falls is safe– especially with the full moon rising.

From the author of Never Cry Werewolf comes this suspenseful new series full of dark secrets and heartfelt romance.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Thanks for having me. I’m so excited to get the opportunity to chat about A Curse So Dark. It debuted this month, launching my new series, Pioneer Falls. It’s my first werewolf series in a while, so I hope fans of my earlier books will give it a try.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

Lily’s dad is missing. She’ll uncover family curse + meet a dark stranger. #werewolf

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

When my sisters and I were little, my father bought three jade medallions. When you turned sixteen, you got to pick out which jade was yours. I loved this tradition and really looked forward to it when I came of age. Of course the writer in me got to thinking––what if that medallion had protective powers? What would it protect us from?

And so, the idea of Lily’s family pendants appeared. I carried the story around in my mind for at least five or six years. I wasn’t ready to write it yet. Sometimes an idea takes a while to gel with the other elements of the story. Last summer, I realized I wanted to write Lily’s story in a three book arc and Pioneer Falls was born.

In A Curse So Dark, the family pendants are the only thing keeping the Lily and her sisters from succumbing to the full moon––but when our story begins, the pendants are missing, along with Lily’s father. It’s part mystery, part family story, part love story too. Because in most of my novels, the need to be loved is the central to all of my main characters.

Tell us about the main character(s).

Lily’s an aspiring journalist, very curious about the world outside of her tiny, seemingly boring town of Pioneer Falls. She’s the daughter of a single dad and spends a lot of time managing her younger sisters, twins Rose and Fawn. She can’t wait to be free of the responsibility, but then, through the arc of the book, she comes to see how important family is.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

I had fun writing the love story between Lily and her dark hero, Morgan McAllister. So many steamy kisses… And I loved writing about Lily seeing the beauty and danger in the forest as she begins to understand the rules of being a wolf.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

Writing action or fight scenes are always difficult for me. Working out the blocking of bodies is challenging. I find myself acting out how the characters would, and taking notes from that.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

I’m about to launch book two in this series, A Forest So Deadly, on November 4th (the full moon!) so that’s coming up. It was fun to continue Lily and Morgan’s story.  I’m also finishing writing book three, which should be out in late December. I have so many ideas on what will happen next in Pioneer Falls… and with Lily’s sisters.

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much. I hope everyone will check out A Curse So Dark — and I always love to connect with readers so please find me online.
