Rumor Mora fears two things: hellhounds too strong for him to kill, and failure. Jude Welton has two dreams: for humans to stop killing monsters, and for his strange abilities to vanish.

But in no reality should a boy raised to love monsters fall for a boy raised to kill them.

Nyx Llorca keeps two secrets: the moon speaks to her, and she’s in love with Dahlia, her best friend. Braeden Tennant wants two things: to get out from his mother’s shadow, and to unlearn Epsilon’s darkest secret.

They’ll both have to commit treason to find the truth.

During one twenty-seven-hour night, if they can’t stop the war between the colonies and the monsters from becoming a war of extinction, the things they wish for will never come true, and the things they fear will be all that’s left.

27 Hours is a sweeping, thrilling story featuring a stellar cast of queer teenagers battling to save their homes and possibly every human on Sahara as the clock ticks down to zero.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Hi, it’s really great to be here!

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

Queer teens living on a colonized moon race against the clock to stop an attack that would make the war between species a war of extinction.

What was your inspiration for writing this book?  Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

It was the combination of a character who wouldn’t leave my head no matter how hard I tried to ignore him, the television show Gargoyles, and the mental image of a young man standing in front of a statue which was coming to life. But he wasn’t scared! Why wasn’t he scared? I would’ve been terrified. I needed to know why he wasn’t scared. So, I was hooked.

Tell us about the main character(s).

Well, the ensemble is six teens, but only four of them have points of view in this book.

Rumor Mora is best described as all straight lines and sharp corners. He’s angry and walled off and focused on getting revenge for the deaths of people he cares deeply about.

Jude Welton is basically a cinnamon roll. He wants peace. He has a job to do, but he hates that job. He lives in a broken world, and all he wants to do is stitch it all back together.

Nyx Llorca is smart and stubborn and has the biggest heart. She feels so deeply and is looking for where she belongs. She mourns humanity’s lost roots from Earth.

Braeden Tennant is such a sarcastic goofball on the surface, but when you get to know him, you see that sarcasm is a shield hiding a boy who’s still trying to figure himself out.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

My absolute favorite quote, one I’m going to get tattooed one day is: “He’d lost count of his scars. His body was a road map of near misses.” I’ll probably change it to first person since the original draft of this book was in first person.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing?  If so, why?

I can’t go into great detail since it’s a major spoiler, but there’s a scene around 80% or so I think? It’s pretty devastating, but when you get there, you’ll immediately know why it was so hard to write.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now.  Any new books coming out?

I’m working on 27 Hours 2! I also write short stories for my Patreon, plus I’m going to try to get a couple of short fiction pieces ready for submission in the coming months, I hope.

It was great having you on the blog today!  We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much for having me!

About Tristina Wright

Tristina Wright is a blue-haired bisexual with anxiety and opinions. She’s also possibly a mermaid, but no one can get confirmation. She fell in love with science fiction and fantasy at a young age and frequently got caught writing in class instead of paying attention. She enjoys worlds with monsters and kissing and monsters kissing. She married a nerd who can build computers and make the sun shine with his smile. Most days, she can be found drinking coffee from her favorite chipped mug and making up more stories for her wombfruit, who keep life exciting and unpredictable.

I am excited to read this because I seem drawn to things with numbers in the titles.
